Her greatest inspiration for her cookbook was her rich history of family traditions and the recipes that accompany them, which are a huge part of their heritage. She wanted to be able to pass those traditions and recipes down to her children so they would always have them.
According to Michelle, each step of the cookbook creation process was equally enjoyable. From gathering the recipes from family and friends, to finding just the right pictures to go with each recipe, each point within the process made her more and more excited to finish the cookbook and see the end result.
Her cookbook has a multitude of recipes, but the ones that are most significant are Capelletti and Crescia, which they make for Easter.
“It's a tradition that was passed down through the generations in my Mother's family, and now it will be passed down to my children to carry on that tradition. Easter wasn't Easter without my Popi commenting on whether there was too much or not enough pepper in the Crescia. Having that every year during Easter Brunch brings back many happy memories.”
Other recipes in the book bring back fond memories for Michelle of being taught how to make each item. Some of the people mentioned in the book as contributors have long since passed away, but the recipes are Michelle’s way of remaining close to them and enjoying their presence for years to come.
She’s created new memories thanks to the creation of her personalized cookbook. Michelle says she’s excited to add even more recipes in the coming years. “Hopefully one day, I'll even get to share the recipes and traditions with my grandchildren - many years off, but someday.” Continuing to pass traditions and recipes along to new generations will keep them alive while creating new memories along the way.
Michelle’s daughter, who is a recent college graduate and now living in a different state, had been asking her mom to share family recipes for a few months.
“It was no surprise that it ended up on her Christmas list this year (never too old for a Christmas list). I was thrilled to come upon Create My Cookbook during a search online and realize that I could actually put together a professional-looking cookbook to preserve our recipes and hand them down to both my daughter and my son, who is still in college. Looking forward to continuing to make many of these recipes together with them, as well as adding more in the future.”
